Driving driving driving. Yup that was about it today. Well, OK, small excitement in a brush fire at the side of the road just outside Grants Pass, OR. It was just about out by the time we got there, but that didn’t stop traffic from being backed up for miles. It also didn’t stop the half dozen water-bombing helicopters from buzzing around the fire very quickly. Interesting to see, for sure (all pics courtesy of Mare):
The fire was very close to the highway:
As we finally reached the actual fire and drove by, I was struck by the heat that was still coming from it, even though it was essentially out. The outside temperature was already over 90 degrees F, but I still felt the heat from the fire as we went by with an open window. You can also still see a few flames:
Exciting, even if it delayed us getting to our hotel by over an hour. Finally arrived at Canyonville in the evening and decided to stay at the Seven Feathers Hotel & Casino (hey why not be Vegas for just one more night ;)). Nice place, reasonable rooms. Didn’t lose much, which was a bonus.
Tomorrow, on to Washington and home.
