SmugMug Gallery Now Online

I’m happy to say I have finally launched an online photo gallery on SmugMug.  Hats off to Duane for doing a lot of research (presented at Northern Voice ’08) and recommending this site.  Thankfully I was able to use him as a referral which I think benefited both of us.

SmugMug is a site dedicated to photography and photographs, providing unlimited online galleries for users to show, promote and sell their images.  I have created a simple gallery to start – Images of British Columbia – and will be adding more on a regular basis to have what I hope is a decent sized portfolio.  Please have a visit and let me know what you think, rank the pictures (this is available) and post comments as well if you like.  The official link to my SmugMug homepage is http://gallery.afocusedview.com/ or you can reach me via SmugMug at http://peterandersen.smugmug.com/.  Hope to see you there!

Tofino 2008 Part II

Back from the mini-vacation, too soon I think.  4 nights isn’t long, but tried to make the most of it while we were there.  Weather was 50/50, with really only one stellar afternoon.  Really only got to about 14 degrees at best, most of the time hovering around 10 – hardly late May/June weather.  But hey, it’s a rainforest and ocean beach – can’t expect tropical skies.

Since we’ve been to Tofino a few times already, didn’t really do much in the way of sightseeing, but did get out to spot whales on Thursday.  Got lucky, too, as we saw both Grays and Humpbacks (although the Humpbacks were about 10km offshore in choppy waters).

Also checked out the Botanical Gardens, which sounds bigger than it is… basically a small series of trails totalling maybe 1km.  Seeing as how we didn’t travel far from home there weren’t exactly “exotic” sights, but room for photos nonetheless:

All of the published photos are on Flickr, culled from, oh, 1600 or so.  Yes I know, but digital is cheap and I’m always worried I’ll miss something ;).

Tofino 2008

Spending a week in Tofino, trying to chill and forget about work etc.  Staying at the Pacific Sands Resort which is nicely priced and situated between 2 much higher priced hotels – the Long Beach Resort and the Wickaninnish Inn.  For those of you that might not know, Tofino is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island, about 2.5 hours from Nanaimo.  It is situated right on the coast, and our beach (Chesterman Beach) faces open ocean, clear to Japan.  It really is a fantastic area, highly recommended.  This is the 3rd time we have been here and I’m sure it’s not the last.  It’s a great area for surfing, apparently, as the waves can get pretty high at certain times of the year.  Right now, the rating is “moderate” for the Wave Warning posted on the way into town.  Incidentally, since the last time we were here several Tsunami Area and Tsunami Evacuation Area signs have been put up.  We’re in one of those zones, let’s hope we stay status quo ;).

Hope to post pics to Flickr at some point and keep blogging.  Wifi is sparse, though, as of right now the only place I can get a signal is out here on the ocean facing deck – darn ;).
